Whirlpool Dryer Repair — What We Cover

Whirlpool dryers come in both top-load (traditional style) and front-load configurations, in gas and electric. The Cabrio high-efficiency top-load dryers pair with the Cabrio washer. Front-load models offer Steam Refresh and Sanitize cycles. Across all models, Whirlpool uses an AccuDry sensor system to automatically detect moisture and end the cycle, preventing over-drying. The platform is well-documented and heavily stocked in the parts market.

Chicago Star Appliance services all Whirlpool dryers across Chicago and the Northwest suburbs. Not heating, drum not spinning, and dryer shutting off early are the most common calls — and we carry thermal fuses, belts, and heating elements for same-visit repairs.

Common Whirlpool Dryer Problems We Fix

Dryer Not Heating

Thermal fuse is the most common cause on both gas and electric Whirlpool dryers. On electric models, the heating element or thermal limiter may also be blown. On gas models, igniter and gas valve coils are the next check. We test all in sequence.

Drum Not Spinning

A broken drive belt causes the drum to sit still while the motor runs. Belt replacement on Whirlpool dryers is a 30-minute repair — we carry the belt and the idler pulley as a pair since the pulley often wears when the belt breaks.

Takes Too Long to Dry

Lint-clogged exhaust vent is the most common cause. If the vent is clear, we test the AccuDry moisture sensor strips and the heating circuit. An over-long vent run is also worth checking if it was recently installed.

Loud Thumping or Squealing

Drum support rollers, idler pulley, and drum glides all cause noise when worn. We identify the specific component through sound and manual rotation, then replace only what's worn.

Shuts Off Before Clothes Are Dry

A faulty moisture sensor or a tripping thermal limiter from a clogged vent can cut cycles short. We test both and clear the vent path as part of every diagnosis.

Won't Start

Door switch, thermal fuse, and start switch are the three most common causes of a Whirlpool dryer that won't power on. We test all three before recommending any repair.
